Hello Councillor Malik and MPP Glover,
I'm writing to express my concern at Ports Toronto's misleading marketing campaign regarding the Billy Bishop airport RESA extension request. The campaign, which I was linked to via Chris Glover's newsletter, is titled 'Safe Clean Quiet' (www.safecleanquiet.ca) The Island airport is not safe (too many residents and recreation happening very close), it is not clean (deicing chemicals and airplane fumes) and its definitely not quiet. As someone who lives nearby and regularly uses the waterfront trail, Harlan's beach and our beautiful harbour waters I know this personally and intimately. None of the RESA options proposed will make a substantive difference to ameliorate these issues, therefore the campaign is misleading.
I believe the city of Toronto should insist that Ports Toronto stop misleading the public via this campaign. I also believe that the city should not renew the tripartite agreement, since the airport lands could provide much needed land for other uses like Parkland. Thank you for all your great political work in this city and I hope that my concerns will be heard.
Regards,
Ben Watt-Meyer
